Hello! My name is Alicia Johnsen and I grew up in the small towns of Brinnon and Quilcene, where I have lived my whole life. I graduated from Quilcene High School, attended Olympic and Peninsula Colleges with my main studies being in Early Childhood Education before I focused on raising our three boys with my high school sweetheart Jason. I worked in the ECEAP program here in Quilcene when my two older boys were in preschool, and then as the bookmobile driver for the Jefferson County Library before changing careers entirely and working as a dental assistant for six years. I had the opportunity to come full circle back to Quilcene School as the District Secretary in 2015, and most recently was the School librarian since 2016. I was fortunate to work at the school when all my boys were attending, and that made it all the more special. I worked the last two summers in PEARL checking returned materials back into the library and loved what I saw! So when the SPED and LAP paraprofessional positions opened up in PEARL I decided it was time to take the leap and jump into a new adventure!
I love to hike, bike, swim, paddleboard, kayak, (and we live in the perfect place for it!) garden, camp, attend concerts and have outdoor adventures as much as possible in the summertime! In the Winter we love camping in our trailer, and taking it up to ski resorts to go snowboarding is one of our favorite things to do. We also love traveling to warmer places at least once a year in the winter time. This year we are going to Maui for a week!
We recently started beekeeping, it's so cool to see them pollinating flowers in our garden! We also have a sweet yellow lab named Ellie, a Norwegian Forest cat named Mittens, and several chickens.Â
I am excited to be a part of the PEARL family and SPED/LAP team!
