Chromebook will not turn on or charge

Chromebook not responding properly

Keyboard/Trackpad stopped working

If the Chromebook does not turn on the first time your child tries to use it, the battery might be discharged. Please plug the device into a known good power source, wait for about 30 minutes, and try to turn the device on at that time.

If the Chromebook is not performing properly, has stopped turning on after successful use, or the keyboard and mouse have stopped responding, follow the steps below.

You may watch the video below for assistance or follow the steps to the right.

Follow these steps:

  • Connect the charger to the device and confirm the power cord is connected to a live power source. Try a new power source if necessary.

  • Press the power button, hold for 10 seconds, then release.

Still not working?

    • Turn the Chromebook OFF.

    • Hold down the Refresh button (circular arrow key found above the number "4" key) then press and hold the Power button simultaneously for 10 seconds.

    • Release the buttons. Depending upon the device you are using, the charge light may flicker to let you know the reset has occurred.

    • Press and hold the power button to turn on the device. This could take several seconds before the device responds.

    • If nothing happens, try the steps above again.

    • After the device turns on, charge the device for about 1 hour.

To prevent any future power issues, try to avoid the Chromebook's from falling below a 10% charge.
