Professional Learning

For over 2 decades Pt England School has worked steadily to raise student achievement outcomes in Reading, Writing and Mathematics. During the 2nd decade of work we worked on the integration of eLearning with these developments.

Now that our students are all working 1:1 in a digital learning environment, we are developing our pedagogy to make the most of these digital affordances. In doing this we are committed to retaining the the key elements we have learned over years of schooling improvement, and more recently research by the Woolf Fisher Research Centre, that make a difference to student achievement.

Along with our Manaiakalani Community of Learning (CoL), our goal is to raise student achievement by having high Cognitive Engagement in all classes. This involves identifying what makes the biggest impact in raising student achievement (with help from the research from Woolf Fisher Research Centre), and disseminating this across classes.

A large part of improving practice comes from our collaborative Teacher Inquiry. Teachers are supported in a cycle of using data to identify teaching goals, develop their thinking and teaching, and measure the impact of their teaching.

School’s Achievement Challenge 2022

Raise student achievement by having high Cognitive Engagement in all classes with a particular focus on the acquisition of Language, Reading, Writing & Mathematics.

In order to do this learning has to be Visible.

What are the Issues related to student achievement?

    • A priority for Pt England is to further accelerate achievement for learners who continue to achieve below expected levels, particularly in Language, Reading, Writing and Mathematics.

    • The school is working on consolidating the Manaiakalani Learn Create Share pedagogy in a 1:1 environment from Yrs 1-8

    • We identify the need to provide learning experiences through direct instruction and independent activities that cognitively challenge learners and develop metacognition.

    • Pt England School is requiring all staff to inquire into the possibilities enabled by the 1:1 Learn Create Share pedagogy to extend the hours and opportunity for learning and to raise student achievement outcomes.

    • Pt England School is committed to associating student achievement data with the learning and teaching practices that bring accelerated shift for students. We are committed to distributing the essential principles of practice in all classrooms.
