Conventions for Learners Recording their Learning

Year 0.

Days of the week song. Talk about what day of the week it is also referring to yesterday and tomorrow.

Months of the year song. Talk about the month.

Teacher writes the date: Today is Monday 4th February 2024

Teacher opens discussion and models brainstorm for story collecting / gifting words and word groups.

Teacher writes co-constructed story on board with learners support.

Dots in the margin indicating the starting point for writing as appropriate.

First line is for the learner and teacher corrections and support.

Learners will copy under, (or self write) teachers model of their first and surname before writing their story.

Learners copy story from board or over / under a pre-written story in their books.

Learners to write then draw when using both book and iPad.

Teacher says:

Read it to yourself.

Read it to a friend and your teacher.

Share your story digitally with the class.

Teacher will tick correctly recorded letters and write correct model on top.

Date to be written on all work including digital work: 12.2.24

Learners in teaching micro group will use iPad and stylus to create story or practice correct letter formation depending on development and need.

Learners to copy the teachers model of their name and correct letter formation onto iPad using stylus as an extra activity.

Year 1

Teacher continues to use OTJ to ascertain learners developmental stage.

Continue same convention for full date.

Begin to establish introduction of short date: 25.02.24

Story established and words / word groups gifted and displayed.

Learners may write independently or with support.

Learners needing support can record story on iPad to rewind as necessary to support writing.

Learners can also record story and create image at the same time depending on requirements of the day.

Continue dots in margin to indicate where to start.

Teacher to tick above the correct basic words  and correctly recorded sounds.

Teacher writes correct model on top it appropriate.

No student use of  rubbers. Errors to be crossed out with a single line.

Learners to read story to self and ask:

Does it make sense?

Does it look right?

Does it sound right?

Can I fix it or make it better?

What else could I write?

Depending on development, learners may write into their book first and then type their story onto their ipad or type their story directly into an app on their ipad or into their class / personal Blog.

Digital work can be shared in class on TV / Projector using Apple TV or ChromeCast

Any work on iPad to be saved using short date into personal folder on Teacher Dashboard.

Year 2

Full date: Monday, 4th February 2024   to be written on whiteboard every day and Maori days and months to be displayed and practised.

Short date:  04/02/24   to be used in books.

Learners may write independently or with support.

Where needed teacher to tick above the correct basic words  and correctly recorded sounds.

Teacher writes correct model on top it appropriate.

No rubbers. Errors to be crossed out with a single line.

Write on every second line as appropriate.

Learners needing support can record story on iPad to rewind as necessary to support writing.

Learners can also record story and create image at the same time depending on requirements of the day.

As independent follow up activities learners may write into their book first and then type their story onto their ipad or type their story directly into an app on their ipad or into their class / personal Blog.

As learners develop readiness throughout the year they begin typing directly in docs.

Digital work can be shared in class on TV / Projector using Apple TV or ChromeCast

Any work on iPad to be saved using short date into personal folder on Teacher Dashboard.

Year 3/4

May begin the year using a writing book at the discretion of the teacher and according to the child's development.

It's important to note that although children do use Maths Books, more and more mathematical thinking and evidence of learning  is being captured digitally.
