Lock Down Procedures

Statement of Procedure

SUBJECT: LOCK DOWN

1. Lock-Down will be signalled by a continuously ringing school bell preceded by an audio call-over that says this is a lock down and states clearly whether this is a drill or not

2. If feasible under the Lockdown conditions, teachers will take their class to their own classroom if not in it already (e.g. at Kiwi Sport) If conditions dictate otherwise, teachers will take their class to the nearest sensible holding room.

3. Make sure no children can use phones. Teachers should not make or receive external calls and should ignore external txts. Keep attention on the children and the surroundings. Any external notifications should be made through the office.

5. Office will ring caretakers who will lock the school gates if it is safe to do so.

6. The Office Team will check toilets and ancillary spaces in the same way we check for fires, if it is safe to do so.

7. The Principal and Deputy will remain in the Office on comms. Other SMT members will check that all classes are in the most appropriate place.

8. Class Teachers and associated Support Workers will seat children below window height wherever possible, under desks if feasible and as much as possible away from easy window view. Lock the doors. Kiwi Sport Coaches can go with the class they are with.

9. Office and SMT Team will lock other external doors once we have ascertained that our children and teachers are in the best places. Do this locking on the way if feasible.

10. Any visitors to the school or contractors etc should be directed to the Office

11. Programmes running in the Library should be directed to Creative and Maker Spaces.

12. All comms about what to do next will come from the Office or a member of the SMT in person. The principal or deputy will declare an end to Lockdown and describe parent pick-up methods and conditions based on communication from the Police.

13. If offsite, stay off site, responsible teacher will be notified i.e at swimming pool
