WIKI TUAIWA (WEEK 9)

Kia ora Te Kahu,

There are only 2 more weeks of school!

We thought it'd be cool to have a Christmas Countdown on our class site as we prepare ourselves for Christmas this season.

We are so proud of all of your mahi this term - keep it up, we are almost there 🤩

LITERACY

Over the next couple of weeks we will take all of our learning about genre, conventions, protagonists, antagonists and movie posters and get creative!

TASK 2:

LI: To create a movie or story poster using visual and written language features

Create a poster/movie advertisement to show the type of story your hero is in. Think about all of the book covers and posters you have analysed recently - how were they laid out? What colours and fonts were used? What was the dominant image?

Post you mahi to Dojo when it is complete :)

TASK 3:

Now that you have created a superhero, and done a profile and a movie poster... it's time for us to learn about their back story!

You need to write a back story for your superhero. This can either be about:

a) Their ‘origin story’, making sure to add their superpower(s) and weaknesses

OR

b) A story about the moment they realised they had powers/or got their powers.

Make your back story at least 150-200 words long. Remember - what would we see in the action genre?

This piece of writing is to entertain us and inform us about where your superhero came from - be creative.

This week we are focusing on BEING A GOOD AUDIENCE as we prepare for Praise-giving...

BRAINSTORM:

What does it mean to be a GOOD AUDIENCE? Think about how we might do this as we prepare for Praise Giving next week.

How can we show our School values of TIKA, PONO, AROHA and ATAWHAI when we are a good audience?

AOTEAROA NZ HISTORIES

"If it wasn't for the Waka... We wouldn't be here today." - Sir Hekenukumai Busby

On Tuesday we will watch WHETU MARAMA, a movie about Sir Hekenukumai Busby and his journey in voyaging.

This is such an important story for us to learn because it is right here in our Rohe (our area). One of the greatest navigators of all time, who was Knighted and became a "Sir" in 2018.

Once we watch this movie we will do some mahi as we reflect on what we have seen/learnt.

Create a profile on Sir Hekenukumai Busby

What information can you find about Sir Hec?
