Ways to Involve Yourself in the Community
Pewaukee High School offers a variety of clubs for all students to participate in. The clubs range from academic in-school services to engaging activities outside the school setting, including Key Club. Key Club is a service organization that offers a wide variety of opportunities to give back to the community. It improves and develops individuals' character and leadership skills.
As stated above, Key Club is a service organization that provides many ways to give back to the community. Some previous services included: selling and managing tickets at Friday night football games, engaging with children at the Retzer Nature Center’s science fair, and packaging bags for the homeless as the winter months approach. Weekly emails are sent out to all members informing them about any available volunteer opportunities. There are many ways to become involved in the community as the holiday season approaches.
There are very few qualifications to become a member. Two examples are the completed drug testing consent form and, eventually, a fee of twenty dollars. Additionally, members have to complete two hours of in-club services, as well as eight hours outside of the club. All requirements are straightforward, permitting anyone eligible to join.
Key Club is a very independent club that requires minimal effort to succeed. There are meetings scheduled every few weeks that are recommended for members to attend. Individuals can sign up for these meetings via “flexiSCHED.”
Not only can students become a member of Key Club, but they also can become a club officer. This allows members to take on a leadership role and aid decision-making. Any grade level can apply to become an officer. However, there is an application process involved. Several questions are asked regarding ideas that can be brought to the club, how one’s skills will affect the club, and availability before and after school.
There are many benefits that sprout from becoming a member of Key Club. One advantage being the service individuals can provide to the community. Many lives can be positively impacted through simple acts of service. Another benefit includes having extracurricular on one’s portfolio, later aiding the future process of applying for a job and building a resume.
In summary, Key Club is a great club to participate in. While helping those in need, participants build character and leadership skills. There are many individuals in the community that benefit from simplistic acts of service. Not only do people in the community benefit from service, but members of the club do as well. Becoming a member is a very short process that includes few requirements, making it easy for anyone to join. Individuals who have a role in this club are advised to attend meetings and complete the recommended hours.
