Pewaukee baseball preview

Jack Sandvik, Writer | 11/4/2021

The Pewaukee Pirates baseball team is coming fresh off an outstanding season, going 27-3 on the year with a 90% win percentage. The team is looking to have another great season and have their sights set on winning a state championship after falling short in the state quarter finals last season.

Kansas State Commit, Logan Dobberstien had this to say about his goals for the season,

“It goes without saying that the team that we have this year will be good. We expect a state championship from ourselves and we will not rest until we achieve our goal.”

The pirates are equipped with a loaded roster this year. Logan Dobberstien (Kansas State) and Carson Hansen (UW-Milwaukee) are two Division 1 baseball players to watch out for. Dobberstien and Hansen were two major roles in the Pirate’s run to state last spring. Look out for them to continue their success on the diamond and propel the pirates towards another great season!

Hansen and Dobberstien’s success in baseball has been recognized by their teammates and coaches. Each year Prep Baseball Report (PBR) and the Wisconsin Baseball Coaches Association (WBCA) compile a list of players that are recognized on a state-wide level for their success.

Hansen returns to the Pirates as a WIAA first team all state left fielder (PBR and WBCA). Second team all state returners include Logan Dobberstien and Nick Doubek (WBCA).

Other players to watch out for include Logan Schill, Gavyn Bowen, Jack Sandvik, and Luke Sopha.

The pirates return a strong core of players from last year's state run making them poised to do it again. They are the favorites to win the woodland conference, with their greatest opposition being Greendale.

The Panthers are the only woodland conference team to beat the pirates last year and broke the pirates streak of 19 consecutive wins.

With the Pirates experience on the team and their quality of players returning, the Pirates are primed to have another great year. Division 2 baseball should be on high alert as when the Pirates get hot, nobody will beat them.

The Pirates will open their season against Milwaukee Lutheran on March 29 at the Rock in Franklin. It should be a game full of action as the Pirates look to open their season with a statement win en route to a state championship.
