In the world of competition, there are many activities that we consider sports, with some more popular than others. Some classic sports include football, soccer, baseball, and basketball, while others are grouped together under one event such as the Olympics, but there is one activity in particular that I believe is wrongly considered to not be a sport. An activity that sees more people participating every day.
This activity is commonly known as gaming.
While to some, the idea of gaming being considered a sport is absurd, others believe that it would fit in with some of the other sports, with plenty of evidence to back it up.
A common argument as to why gaming should not be considered a sport is that it doesn’t require as much physical activity as other sports like wrestling, but there are two big reasons why that argument is invalid.
The first reason is that some activities such as chess are considered sports by the International Olympic Committee, in which they have even less physical activity than gaming. The second reason has to do with the advancements of virtual reality, requiring the user to get up and move around in order to play, requiring a higher amount of physical activity golf, which is also considered a sport.
To summarize as to why gaming should be a sport has to do with the fundamentals of sports, which is competition. Competition is at the heart of each and every sport, when football players practice runs, they don’t do it because they want to get more physical activity, they do it because they want to win, and that's exactly how games are, they want to win and they enjoy the sport. They are competitions to see who’s the better player, who has better reflexes, who can think on their feet. It’s all about competition.
