Goal: Rearrange shapes to create one or two whole object(s)
We often complicate drawing from our eyes because of our inability to simplify something down to the basic shapes. Here, you will closer analyze two objects and learn to create something new through the skill of simplification.
Choose two photos of two objects or things. They can be of your own or from the internet
Create an outline of the objects and outline some of the shapes within the object/thing
Colour in the shapes, you can do random colours, or try to use the colours in the photograph
Cut out the shapes based on the outline you made
Rearrange the shapes in any way you’d like
You can add new shapes, lines, or details to make a more cohesive image
Think of a name for the object if you want
Osvaldo's Quick Bio = Some of the careers I wanted to pursue when I was younger were being a chef making music in a studio. I landed on art because I was actually decent at it.
I’ve been drawing portraits ever since 7th grade and have grown my skills ever since. After years of learning techniques online, I found this one technique for drawing portraits that involved simplifying the face into simple shapes. I’ve always heard about this technique, but I never really understood it when I was younger. Recently, I’ve been able to have a better sense of utilizing the method and apply it to other subjects. I’ve always loved the things that can come out of randomness and playing around. That’s what I wanted to do, distort preexisting items to create something that looks alien to us. I’ve never considered myself creative because my art is mostly reproductions of references. Still, the more I understand what I am looking at, the more I feel comfortable altering it. This has allowed me to have more ideas and create something more creative than a simple reproduction of a photo. I hope that other people will learn the method as mastering it can provide a lot of freedom.
