We all have seen ads and products trying to sell the best chair, no matter what kind of chair. Now how about the worst chair? A chair that is the opposite of comfort and aesthetic? Does this chair have just frames with spikes? Or is it a chair with abilities that make it worse than your average chair. Be creative and let your mind wonder what the worst chait would be. Have fun with this, let the comedy of this flow. Nothing is restricted as long as the end product is the worst chair ever. This doesn’t have to be a literal chair that exists. It can be a fantastical creation. This ideation prompt is meant to just help get the creative gears going. A chair is simple, but making it somewhat chaotic and original? That takes thought and creativity. It's a very abstract way to create art without feeling pressured to make something amazing.
Steps:
Think of the chairs you’ve seen that are meant to be the best quality. Now destroy that idea and think of what the worst chair could be. This could be a recliner chair or a sofa chair or even a dining room chair. Just any kind of chair you think of. Now make it the worst.
BE CREATIVE. This chair does not have to exist in this world. Let it be whatever you think of. As long as it creates the worst chair.
Get a piece of paper and pencil, pen, or whatever drawing material you'd like to use.
Draw this monstrosity of a “chair”.
Optional: Write the aspects of the chair on the same paper that make this the worst chair it can be. Like what materials would be used if it did exist.
Optional: Make it a full piece. Color it, photograph it, whatever you’d like to make it what you consider a finished product.

This prompt was inspired by experiences I had at Minnesota College of Art and Design. I made lots of friends there. One of the classes we had to take there was ideation. It was a much more lenient type of ideation course as it was pre-college work. Nonetheless, it was still a wonderful experience. In that class we looked over Fluxus art. On top of that we looked at the instructors examples of ideation prompts. We did a similar prompt there, but much more specific and had different requirements and steps. That inspired me to create this prompt. I opened it up much more and gave more freedom within the prompt.
