Where does it begin: home, neighbourhood, or the city? 

After experiencing a thought-provoking walk through the archival narratives of reforms from the Pattani Office to the professional exposure to Pattani Archives, it might feel strange to land in the middle of a family's oral histories…things so personal… જે ખરેખર વ્યક્તિગત બની જાય છે. That’s how the journey of reading the archives was!

The stories got more imaginative as we engaged with the dynamics of the Pattani family, within the neighbourhood of Anantwadi, and amongst the diverse communities of the city. So much is not known or passed on. It felt right to dig deeper into the roots of the cultural custodianship, “Where did it begin?” એક સાહેબનું વ્યકિતત્વ, એમના ઘર પરિવારનો જીવન પ્રત્યેનો અભિગમ, પાડોશમાં જોવા મળતા મૂલ્યો… આવા પ્રશ્નનો કોઈ એક જવાબ નથી! 

Rather, it would be right to say that the answer is not only invested in the chronology but in the cultural nuances of the events. So, the stories coming up next are unpacking many experiences of a ‘home, as an epitome of safe space’ that blur the lines between the personal and public. જ્યારે આપણે એક ઘરેથી બીજા ઘરે જઈએ છીએ, શું છૂટી જશે અથવા

આપણે શું પાછળ છોડીએ છીએ! 

પટ્ટણી ઑફિસના ઉત્તેજક ચાલના અનુભવ અને આર્કાઇવ્ઝના વ્યાવસાયિક  વર્ણનો  જોયા પછી, કુટુંબના મૌખિક ઇતિહાસની મધ્યમાં ઉતરવું વિચિત્ર લાગી શકે છે... વાર્તાઓ એટલી વ્યક્તિગત… આર્કાઇવ્સ વાંચવાની સફર અમારા માટે પણ આવી જ હતી!

વાર્તાઓ વધુ કાલ્પનિક બની ગઈ કારણ કે અમે પટ્ટણી પરિવારની ગતિશીલતા સાથે, અનંતવાડીના પડોશમાં અને શહેરના વિવિધ સમુદાયો વચ્ચે સંકળાયેલા હતા. ઘણું અજ્ઞાત છે અથવા સોંપવામાં આવ્યું નથી. સાંસ્કૃતિક સંરક્ષકતાના મૂળમાં ઊંડા ઉતરવાનું યોગ્ય લાગ્યું, "તે બધું ક્યાંથી શરૂ થયું?"

ઊલટાનો, જવાબ માત્ર ઘટનાક્રમમાં જ નહીં, પણ ઘટનાઓની તેમની સાંસ્કૃતિક વિગતોમાં રોકાયેલો છે. તેથી, આગળ આવનારી વાર્તાઓ વ્યક્તિગત અને સાર્વજનિક અનુભવો વચ્ચેની રેખાઓને ઝાંખી પાડતા ‘ઘર, સલામત જગ્યાના પ્રતીક તરીકે’ ના ઘણા અનુભવોને રજૂ કરી રહી છે. જ્યારે આપણે એક ઘરેથી બીજા ઘરે જઈએ છીએ, શું છૂટી જશે અથવા આપણે શું પાછળ છોડીએ છીએ!
