I would like to share a little bit about myself with you. I was a 2003 Pasadena High School Cosmetology graduate and have been licensed as a Cosmetology Operator since then. I've been teaching for PISD since 2009, and I was fortunate to serve as a Cosmetology Instructor for 2 years at Paul Mitchell the School – Houston when it opened. I worked at Murphy’s Retreat Salon and Spa for 10 years where I serviced clients in all areas as well as served as a Salon Manager and Inventory Leader.
In 2016 I was the recipient of the Together We Can - Create Magic Award from PISD and in 2019 CTHS named me Teacher of the Year. I have served in the Cosmetology Instructors of Public Schools organization as the President-Elect, President, and Past President, assisting others across the state. I mentor Cosmetology Instructors around the world through my YouTube channel, bringing new ideas into classrooms.
I have been an Alumni of SkillsUSA since 2001, serving as the President for both my Junior and Senior years of high school. I am the Advisor for SkillsUSA Chapter 4539, have been a Campus Advisor for CTHS, contest chair for the District 8 Cosmetology division. For a couple of years, I had the opportunity to serve as the District 8 officer trainer. From 2015 to 2023 I served as the Contest Chair at the state level for the nail art competitions for Texas. For 2019-20, I received the Advisor of the Year award for District 8. I also have a year of experience as the SkillsUSA District 8 Coordinator for Harris County.
On our CTHS campus, I served as the Career and Technical Education Department Chair that led a team of over 30 teachers on campus for 3 years. I am one of two District of Innovation facilitators for PISD with the objective of training new CTE teachers in the district. In early 2023, I was awarded the CTAT Experienced Teacher of the Year for the Gulf Coast area.
My resume, portfolio and career experiences have allowed me to fuel my ambition for the classroom. I share this information not to gloat, but to let you know that I am a hard-working, dedicated, and passionate Cosmetology Instructor. My dream of becoming a Cosmetology Instructor was planted my Senior year of high school so yes, dreams do come true if you put in the work!
I guarantee you are in for a great year! I work hard to create a unique, fun and safe learning environment for all of my students. With this said, please come prepared for class with an eager heart to learn the many facets of this incredible industry. I give 110% to all my students and I expect the same in return.
I thank you, the student, for your interest in our Cosmetology program, and I thank you, the parent/guardian, for your support. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions, suggestions, critiques, or complaints. It is my job to grow student professionals. I love receiving feedback of any kind to better serve my students and their parents/guardians.
You have received the 9th-grade Principles of Cosmetology information with all the details of this course. You will also find a copy of the packet on this website under the tab labeled 9th Grade Welcome Packet. This document describes important information you need to know for this program that is found on this website in case you need to print it out. The CTHS Cosmetology course can be compared to a course like band or cheerleading. Everything comes with a cost, and I am committed in assisting in the raising of the funds through salon days to make sure all students have the necessary items needed to be successful.
I am looking forward to this next school year as I have already laid out the agenda and have planned fun, interactive hands-on lessons and projects. Please contact me with any questions you may have.
