MATHS

At Parkfield Primary School, we recognise the importance of maths and numeracy as a key life skill and aim to help our learners to acquire the understanding, knowledge, skills and interests that are relevant to present and future needs and life skills, by having a broad and balanced curriculum, which makes real links to maths wherever possible. We achieve this through: 

• the use of mathematical language at every opportunity

• practical maths using equipment, following a concrete- pictorial- abstract approach

• children seeing real- life applications of maths wherever possible

• children learning how to solve problems and be able to explain, reason and generalise

• ensuring that all children achieve success, whatever their ability

• knowing our children, what their gaps are, and then tailoring the curriculum to that

• celebrating expertise among children

Teachers use the White Rose Maths Hub Scheme of Work to plan for the progression of the National Curriculum .
