In our English Curriculum, we value literacy as a key life skill and aim for our students to foster a love for reading, writing and communicating. Through the use of a broad and balanced curriculum, which is responsive to children's interests, and through the use of high quality texts, we want every child to leave Parkfield Primary School with the skills to:
read easily, fluently and have a good understanding of what they have read
develop good reading habits, where they read not only for information but also enjoyment
write clearly, accurately and coherently, whilst being able to adapt their use of language and style to suit a range of contexts and purposes
Understand and acquire a wide vocabulary, and have a range of strategies to dip into when faced with an unknown words
express their thoughts and ideas clearly and creatively
confidently communicate with others
use discussion as a form of communication and to further their learning
celebrate their success and take pride in their work
