The British Museum, located in London, United Kingdom, is a public institution dedicated to human history, art and culture. Its permanent collection numbers around 8 million works and is among the largest and most comprehensive in existence. The museum was established in 1753, largely based on the collections of the physician and scientist Sir Hans Sloane, and it opened for the first time to the public in 1759. The museum is today a non-departmental public body.

Professor Carl Heron, Director of Scientific Research at the British Museum, has been appointed as the British Museum’s contact person for the duration of the TEMPERA project.
