ChemArch is open to applicants of any nationality, subject to the eligibility criteria detailed below. Please contact us if you are unsure about these rules.
1. Early-stage researchers (ESR) are those who are, at the time of recruitment* by the host, in the first four years (full-time equivalent) of their research careers. This is measured from the date when they obtained the degree which formally entitles them to embark on a doctorate, either in the country in which the degree was obtained or in the country in which the research training is provided, irrespective of whether or not a doctorate was envisaged.
2. Researchers are required to undertake trans-national mobility (i.e., move from one country to another) when taking up the appointment. Researchers must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in the country of the recruiting beneficiary for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately before the recruitment date*. Compulsory national service and short stays such as holidays are not taken into account. Note: this mobility rule is somewhat relaxed for applicants with Refugee status. Contact us for more details if this applies to you.
*reckoned as the first day of employment, currently expected to be September 1st 2021 for most projects.
NB. individual host institutions may have additional eligibility criteria for PhD study, particularly regarding nature and grade of previous degrees.
Formal applications for ChemArch studentships are expected to open in Jan 2021, and will be made via the individual lead institutions with links from this page.
In the meantime, we invite expressions of interest from potential candidates, including some basic information on eligibility and prior qualifications, plus an indication of your preferred project(s) and your motivations for this choice. Expressions of interest will be used to help gauge interest across the network and to guide potential applicants towards the ESR projects for which they are eligible and best suited.
Studentships are due to commence in Autumn 2021.
