Week beginning - Monday 17th November 2025
Take a peek at all the amazing things we've been learning this week!
Year 6 were delighted to welcome the Rt. Honorable Mike Martin, MP for Tunbridge Wells to Paddock Wood this week. Our current Unit of Inquiry into migration, and how it causes societies to adapt and change, has provoked a huge range of questions from students. An important step in the inquiry process is an investigation which provides students with opportunities to develop their research skills. Mr. Martin kindly accepted our invitation to speak to the students and answered many questions in a 'Question Time' style format for about an hour. We really appreciate this opportunity for our students to meet and interview a local MP, however Mr. Martin also expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to participate in the learning in our school community.
Also in Inquiry, we have examined the Windrush migration, looking at the push and pull factors that encouraged thousands of people from the West Indies and Caribbean to pay to board the Empire Windrush (and subsiquent vessels) to move to Britain.
In maths, we have been continuing to work with fractions and mixed numbers, adding, subtracting and multiplying mixed numbers by integers.

This week, you demonstrated excellent thinking skills when you developed thoughtful questions for the MP. During the visit, you also showcased strong communication skills as you confidently asked your question. Well done—great work!

This week, James wrote a fantastically thought out and well worded question to ask the MP and was able to stand up and present his question confidently, clearly and as an excellent representative for our school. In addition, he has been thoughtful and enthusiastic about all of our learning, showing that he can be an excellent learner and not get distracted by those around him.

Your collaboration allowed you to effectively analyse primary sources and design a class presentation about the push and pull factors which led to 'Windrush' migration.
