This week in Maths, the children focused on subitising and exploring numbers 4 and 5. They practised finding these numbers in different representations and used a variety of resources to show their understanding. Next week we will be reactivating our learning on 1 more and 1 less building on the number knowledge we've developed so far.

This week we have learnt the sounds l and ll. We have also exposed the children to f and ff. The children have been working hard to blend sounds together to read simple words and they are growing in confidence with their reading. We have also focused on reading tricky words I, the, a, in, it, is, an, at and as. Please practice reading these words by sight reading them speedily and with confidence. 

For our second line of inquiry the children have been exploring the similarities and differences between celebrations. They have noticed that some celebrations are similar because they have feasts, light, decorations, parties and family gatherings. We have discussed birthdays, fireworks, Diwali, Hannukah and Christmas. Ask your child which celebrations they enjoy most. Next week we will be focusing on the celebration of Christmas. We will be writing a very important letter which we will be posting in the post box. Please send in an envelope with a stamp on it. In return your child will receive a letter from Santa.

If your child came home with some words to learn for the nativity, please ensure you give them an opportunity to practice them at home using a loud and confident voice. This will help the children feel ready and excited for their performance. Thank you for your support with this.
