Pack 2011 wants to encourage all our scouts to go hiking, both with us and with their families! Scouts earn awards for completing milestones for their career miles hiked since they started scouting.
Scouts can also earn miles for hikes you take as a family! As long as you're "going on a hike" (just taking lots of steps on a school field trip around the city doesn't count!), track your miles and send them in to your den leader for us to record. (A good rule of thumb for "is this a hike" - are you bringing your six essentials?)
See below for the hiking awards our scouts earn! (The images below may not be exactly the same as the item awarded, depending on what we have on hand.)
Welcome to the Pack! Pack 2011 will give you an emergency whistle for your first time on the trail!
Sun protection is important! These cool sunglasses will protect your eyes on the trail.
Now that you've explored a bit, how about taking along this notebook to draw some of the things you see on the trails?
Now that you've hiked 15 miles, you could use this magnifying glass to explore the things you see on a whole different level!
By the time you've hiked 25 miles, you're ready for a cool poncho to help keep you dry while you're on the trails!
Now that you've hiked 50 miles, you could use a compass to help you navigate on your way!
At 75 miles, you're ready for a head lamp, to help you on any hikes that might run long!
At 100 miles, you need a hiking stick to help you on rough terrain!
