Summer camp is an awesome opportunity for scouts to continue having adventures during the summer! There are different styles of summer camp, but all include scouting fun like STEM, fishing, hiking, shooting sports, and more!
The three main types of camp are: Resident Camp, Day Camp, and Twilight Camp. Pack 2011 typically will send a group to both Resident Camp and Twilight Camp; occasionally we have enough interest to also send a group to Day Camp as well!
Resident camp is a sleep-away camp, usually about 3-6 days long. Pack 2011 will usually have a group of scouts and leaders attend camp as a group.
Day Camp is a week long camp scouts attend during the day on weekdays, but they sleep in their own homes at night. Camp Snyder in Haymarket is usually where Pack 2011 scouts who choose to do Day Camp attend. Day Camp often requires parent volunteers as den walkers for at least one of the days. Pack 2011 may or may not organize a contingent to attend Day Camp depending on interest for a given year.
Twilight Camp tries to offer some of the fun of Day Camp, but in an evening model that may make it more accessible for parents who still have to work during the days. Twilight Camp is usually hosted at the Izak-Walton League facility, just a 5-10 minute drive from Virginia Run. Camp is usually for 3 hours in the evening each night for a week. While there is also a den walker volunteer requirement for Twilight Camp, Pack 2011 usually sends enough scouts that not all our parents will have to volunteer for this one.
