Camping is one of our favorite adventures in Cub Scouting! Pack 2011 tries to camp 3 times per year - once each in the fall, spring, and summer. You can choose to join us for some or all of the adventure! We often have a daytime activity (like a hike), dinner, a campfire (and s'mores), then sleeping in tents. We get up in the morning, have breakfast, then take down our gear and head home!
We usually charge an extra per person fee to cover costs. We charge a small amount for dinner and slightly more for camping overnight. If you're only attending the daytime activity, that's usually free!
A parent must attend, but siblings are welcome to come along!
If you've never been camping before - don't fret! Cub Scouts is the very first camping experience for many of our families. We also have some families with extra gear - your first time out, if you want to borrow gear, let your den leader know! We'd hate for you to buy a bunch of gear only to find out that camping isn't your scout's thing.
All our campouts will have access to toilets and potable water.
If you've never been camping before, here's a list of things you may want to consider bringing along. Remember, some of our families have extra gear you can borrow, especially if it's your first time trying camping! Chat with your den leader if you're interested in borrowing gear.
Tent: A good rule of thumb is that a tent is comfortable for half the number of people it is rated for on the packaging.
Tarp: You may want a tarp to lay under your tent
Sleeping Bag
Air mattress/sleeping pad/cot: something to go under your sleeping bag so the ground isn't so hard.
Clean clothes: Make sure your scout has enough layers to stay comfortable!
Toiletries
Flashlights or Headlamps: You'll want to be able to see once the sun goes down. Lights that have a red setting are a plus!
Closed toe shoes
Water Bottle
Camp chair: For sitting around the fire at night
Mess Kit: Pack 2011 usually will ask families to bring their own mess kit (reusable plates, knives, forks, spoons, cups/bowls) and we clean our dishes with the 3 bucket method. Walmart has fairly inexpensive ones if you need to get one.
