In Geography this term, we have been learning about our local area. We have explored features of a coastal town, and that Hastings is a coastal town; we then compared this to a rural town, such as Battle. We looked at the differences between villages, towns and cities. We then looked at the UK, the counties that make up the UK and their capital cities. Finally, we learnt the differences between man-made and natural features, we then discussed man-made and natural features of Hastings, such as the pier, beach, cliffs and rides.
Year 1
In Year 1 this term we have been focusing on the text 'Gorilla'. We have been looking at writing character descriptions using adjectives and sentences of three. In our non-fiction unit, we have explored persuasion texts and what language we use when trying to persuade someone to do something. The children then wrote their own letters of persuasion.
Year 2
In Year 2 this term, our focus has been character description and our text was 'The Twits'. We wrote fantastic innovations using sentences of three, show not tell, similes and speech. Our non-fiction text was giving instructions on 'How to make bird pie'. The tools were imperative verbs, time adverbials, personal pronouns and rhetorical questions. Every child has made lots of progress this year in their writing and they should all be very proud of themselves.
In maths this term, we have learned about coin recognition and making the same total using different coins. We then moved onto mass and we weighed and compared the mass of objects in kilograms. We explored numbers within a 1000 and we showed the value of a 3 digit number in different ways. We also compared numbers using our greater than, less than and the same as symbols. We have finished up the term exploring multiplicative thinking by finding patterns in the 2's, 5's and 10 times table.
In maths this term, we have been exploring multiplication and division. We have used arrays to help us. We have been investigating equal and unequal groups. We also finished our unit addition and subtraction to 100. We solved problems, using the skill 'If I know, then I know', and used dienes and a part whole model to solve different equations.
We had a fantastic trip to Drusillas and all of the children had a great day. We were able to see lots of animals, play in the soft play and outdoor area, go on the different rides and on the train. It was a great way to end the year for each class!
The phase took part in a fantastic sports day where all of the children competed in a range of field events and finished with some races. Even though the weather was cloudy, the pupils shone and showed such fantastic effort and sportsmanship.
