In my last update I hinted at the plans we have to improve our SEND provision across the school. To this end, we are participating in the WE SEND Project in collaboration with TKAT. This is a project run by an organisation called Whole School SEND. The Whole School SEND Consortium brings together schools, organisations and individuals who are committed to ensuring that every child and young person with SEND can achieve their potential at school. That is what we are committed too as well. This term we have completed an evaluation of our current provision. We have looked at seven key areas and will use the outcomes from this to formulate an Action Plan. It is exciting to have this project at the heart of our School Improvement Plan and I look forward to sharing the positive changes in our practice that will unfold throughout this year and beyond.
We have a clear referral process in school that enables teachers to raise any concerns that they might have in regard to a child's progress. This helps us to identify needs quickly and put appropriate support in place. We are also able to make referrals to outside agencies for assessment of needs and additional support. If you have a concern about your child you can raise this with your child's Class Teacher in the first instance. You can also book an appointment for an Inclusion Consultation. These are on a Thursday afternoon and can be booked through Mr Tippett or Mrs Foster via Dojo. Remember no concern is too big or too small. Mr Tippett will also be available to speak with at the Parent Consultations in Term 2.
Teachers have been completing Pupil Plans for some of the children on our SEND Register this term. The children with plans require evidence based interventions and/or the implementation of external advice. The plans include specific small step targets to enable pupils with SEND to make accelerated progress. They detail the support that will be given and are reviewed three times a year. These plans will be shared with you at Parent Consultations so that you have the opportunity to contribute to them. Pupils have also been asked their views and these are recorded on the plans. Everything we do to support SEND Pupils is more effective when we work in partnership with you and your child. We hope that these plans will facilitate this process and lead to better outcomes, academically and socially, for your child.
