Year 6 have had a wonderful Term 1 to launch their final year at Primary School! Hindleap Warren, an engaging topic on Ancient Greece, a chance to get our hands on some clay to create some wonderful Greek vases AND the launch of our Time to Dance practice along with all our curriculum learning and SATs preparation - it's been quite a term.
Hindleap Warren Residential
Year 6 started the term with their residential visit to Hindleap Warren where they took part in some wonderful activities and created lots of amazing memories. A huge thank you to Mr Bula-Edge for organising the highly successful trip and to Ms Bazell, Mr Ferrandino and Mrs Broomfield for accompanying. We are so grateful to the Fonthill Foundation for fully funding the visit, enabling the trip to be eligible for all pupils free of charge.
Ancient Greece
This term we have been delving into the world of the Ancient Greeks. We have unpicked where and when the Greek civilisation occured. We have looked at the similarities and differences between the Greek city states and thought about the Ancient Greek philosophers. Most excitedly we have looked at Ancient Greek beliefs: their Gods and Goddesses, heroes and monsters. At the end of the unit we have asked the question how have the Ancient Greeks influenced our lives today!
Ancient Greece Pottery
We linked our Art to our History topic and explored the medium of clay to make some wonderful Greek pots. We started by looking at a range of images of Greek pots and discussed what we liked and disliked about them. We looked at Greek figures and practised drawing our own. We studied Greek patterns and the shape of vases and pots. Then came the fun bit, we had a go at making a coil and pinch pot using salt dough and then moved to clay. Here are some pictures of the end products. It was fair to say we were all very proud of how we did.
Time to Dance kicks off
This term we have also started out Time to Dance rehearsals. A lucky group of 24 children have been busy practicing their moves with Molly in the hall every Friday. These children will perform this dance in front of hundreds of people in the White Rock theatre at the begnning of next year. What a fantastic opportunity!
