One of the skills we sometimes take for granted is the ability to build relationships, care for ourselves and others, and regulate our emotions. Our Turtles develop these skills through our daily routines, from finding and putting their name on the board when they come in, to taking turns in games.
Our Turtles are really fortunate to have lots of space and resources to build those muscles, small and large. 'Squiggle while you wiggle' is a programme we used to start the children on the path to becoming writers in the future. Lifting heavy objects in our outdoor construction area is also a great way for our children to build strength and balance. We are also lucky to have 2 P.E sessions with Wayne a week. The children play games with lots of movement and get the opporunity to practice specific skills such as jumping.
Talk underpins everything we do in Turtle class. From having a chat around our breakfast table, to repeating new vocabulary during carpet time, we are always encouraging the children to talk. At home, it is really useful to repeat back your child's response in a full sentence if they are speaking in 2 or 3 word phrases. Keep it up to help your child continue to build vocabulary, as our Turtles always have a lot they want to share!
Daily maths meetings give the children the change to learn about everyday maths. From counting on our calendar to sorting objects into groups, we are improving our understanding of maths everyday.
This term in Talk 4 Writing we have been learning classic nursery rhymes. Learning rhymes and stories by heart helps children to develop their speech and learn new vocabulary. Remember to keep these up at home too!
Did you notice Terri in her cow costume? We have been so lucky to celebrate class treats like our dressing up and ice cream day. We are so proud of how hard the Turtles are working and we look forward to having many more!
Happy half term from Turtle Class!
