The first term has been a long, but very rewarding one! Each class have settled in wonderfully, and we have also welcomed some new pupils who have adjusted so well. All three classes earned a class reward, which were very much deserved! We are so proud of the pupils' effort.
This term we have been busy looking at Ancient Egypt in both history AND art. In Art we looked at Kara Walker who is a contemporary artist who creates silhouette art.
We were so inspired by her work we created our own watercolour background (carefully choosing colours to represent a sunset) and then designed and created silhouettes to place on the front. The results were beautiful and so striking!
We had an extraordinary find in the Year 3&4 area. Julian, our caretaker, informed us of something unbelievable left in our Year 3/4 playground....when he checked CCTV he couldn't believe what he saw! Take a look at what we found and some warning posters telling our community to beware of a dragon on the loose!
This term in history we enjoy learning all the Ancient Egyptians. We began our topic learning about where in the world Egypt is and where the Ancient Egyptians chose to live. We discussed reasons they chose to live near the River Nile and why this was such an important asset to them.
Later on we started looking at how they preserved their history using mummification to ensure their valued Pharaohs went into the afterlife with everything they cherished (not including their brains which they believed were useless!).
We then looked at their beliefs and how they believed people travelled into the afterlife. We looked at the story of Anubis and how he decided if someone was good enough for the underworld or not.
We also looked at how they communicated using hieroglyphics.
This term Belugas have really enjoyed learning Ukelele. We have been practicing ready for a Christmas performance to parents! We can't wait to show you our chord changes and wonderful tunes!
Forest School
This term Otter class have really enjoyed their Forest School sessions, We have been getting muddy, digging up potatoes, picking apples, making s'mores, toffee apples and enjoying hot chocolate and marshmallows.
We have been so impressed with the work being produced in the very first term! Their writing is at a great starting point, and every child has already achieved so much! These very smiley faces summarise how proud they have been of themselves and how proud we are of them.
