Annual New Teacher Survey
Annual New Teacher Survey
Every year, we survey our new/early career teachers to learn more about their experience in OUSD and with the support provided by NTSD. For all survey data from prior years, see our Early Career Teacher Dashboard.
Key Trends from Multi-Year Survey Data
Early career teachers' satisfaction with their overall experience in OUSD has notably increased in 24-25.
Satisfaction with support from NTSD and plans to continue teaching have remained relatively constant in recent years.
Additionally, early career teachers report the following in our 2024-25 survey (most of which is compatible with prior years data):
The trends reflected here are similar to those of recent years with one notable exception: credentialing was ranked higher as a primary need/challenge and establishing strong classroom culture was ranked lower. However, when we disagreggate the data by years of teaching, 1st year teachers name classroom culture as their #2 challenge. Additionally, when asked the same question about new teachers' needs/challenges, coaches most often cited lack of time/overwhelm, classroom culture, and using/creating/adapting curriculum and learning materials.
Specifically, as it relates to credentialing, teachers name the following:
While early career teachers remain clear on what their credentialing requirements are, they are less clear on who to go to for support and feel less than adequately supported by OUSD with their credentialing needs.
Emergency permit teachers report the least clarity on what they need to do, who to go to for support, and feel the least adequately supported by OUSD as compared to teachers on intern or preliminary credentials.
We know the credentialing process can be difficult and confusing! Here is a reminder of the supports available: sub coverage for release days, 1:1 support via weekly office hours, free test prep, credentialing PDs, and guidance documents.
