Substitute Coverage for New Teachers
Please note that Administrator approval is needed prior to booking your sub.
We are excited to offer two forms of substitute coverage to support new teacher growth and development!
We know that a teacher's most valuable, and often most limited, resource is TIME. We have heard new teachers ask for additional time during the work day to focus on their own professional learning and growth. Therefore, OUSD's New Teacher Support & Development Team is thrilled to provide substitute coverage to give new teachers and their coaches additional time for the following:
Peer observation (coachees observing their coach or other colleagues)
Coach observation of coachee
Coach/Coachee coaching time
Model teaching
Additional unit/lesson planning time for new teachers
New teacher professional development
Credentialing requirements
Option 1: Request coverage from NTSD's STIP Sub
For this option, you will log your absence in Frontline but will request NTSD's STIP Sub, Danny Arteaga, through a Google Form.
Complete this Google Form. Read the instructions provided in the google form before proceeding.
Once Danny has confirmed coverage, log your absence in Frontline but select "no sub required" when prompted.
In the notes, let your site admin know that you will be absent but have booked NTSD's STIP Sub, Danny Arteaga, to cover your class.
Option 2: Book Your Own Sub with NTSD's Budget
For this option, you will use Frontline. When booking your substitute on Frontline, follow these instructions:
Select "Professional Development" or "Observation/Planning" under Reasons for Absence.
In the notes, ask your site admin to select the "New Teacher Support & Development" budget code option when approving the absence. This will ensure no personal time is taken off your record and that you are paid for the work day.
