Annual Coach Survey
Annual Coach Survey
Every year, we survey our new teacher coaches to learn more about their experience in the role as well as their perspectives on the new teacher experience in OUSD. For all survey data from prior years, see our Early Career Teacher Dashboard. For a summary of key trends from new teachers, see our New Teacher Survey webpage.
Key Trends from Multi-Year Survey Data
Coach satisfaction remains high and continues to grow.
Since 2022-23, we are pleased to see notable jumps in coaches' sense of impact from the coach PD and in their work with your coachees.
Additionally, coaches shared their primary needs/challenges and what they have found most helpful in their role as well as what they see as the major challenges and most helpful supports for new teachers.
Consistent with prior years, coaches' biggest challenge is the scarcity of time and their biggest asset is the experience and expertise they bring into the role.
Foundational and Sustaining coaches both named the coach PD, tools, and protected time to meet as particularly helpful.
Interestingly, coaches, regardless of their coachees' experience level, named establishing strong classroom culture as the second greatest challenge facing early career teachers, but in the new teacher survey, only 1st year teachers named this as one of their top areas of struggle.
