Summer Assignments
This is an assignment that I am extremely proud of. In this assignment, students were instructed to choose a career that associated with Forensic science. After choosing forensic nurse as a career, I was responsible to familiarize myself with information and know what a forensic nurse is all about. Afterwards, students were expected to present all findings through a poster that contained job descriptions, salaries. job trends, education/training necessary, etc. This assignment would also test my research skills and students would have to demonstrate that they were able to successfully gather all information by communicating everything through a presentation. The reason I am very proud of this assignment is because I was able to meet up to all the expectations and showed an strong interest in the career. I became familiar with the career and was able to communicate everything successfully.
This is an assignment that I am proud of but also feel as though I could have done better. In this assignment, students were introduced to a virtual crime scene that they would have to solve using observational and problem-solving skills. Students were expected to take procedures such as questioning and note taking to come up with an explanation and conclusion for the crime presented. I feel as though I performed very well while solving this case. However, I believe I could have done better with coming up with a time line and explanation for this crime. The only reason I was able to even come up with a conclusion was by looking at the correct conclusion that another detective had made. By listening to his explanation, I was able to go back to all the information I had initially missed out on. This is why I feel I could have done better. Overall, I am proud that I was able to understand and communicate everything through a lab memo.
Marking Period 1
The objective of this assignment was to understand the relationship between CSI entertainment shows and the real world courtroom. This assignment required students to do research on the given topic and then a clear understanding on the given topic. The research required for students to be able to identify reliable sources and put that information in their own words. In order to understand the topic that is being taught in class, background information was expected to be collected to have a better understanding on the current topic. Through completing this assignment I learned that CSI shows set up this unrealistic depiction of the courtroom, and because of this the opnions of judges and jurors may change, and the procedures that are usually taken have changes over time. For example, in a criminal case because of these CSI shows, there have been many new unnecessary procedures that have had to be implemented like presenting DNA testing. DNA wasn't always required in a trial but now judges expect them for almost any trial. I also found this assignment to be helpful because with future assignments within the same topic, I am able to see them with some background information.
With watching a 10 episode documentary, on Netflix, a man named Steven Avery, who was falsly accused of murder, students were required to take notes on the murder trial and answer any questions that were given. Each question was to ensure that students didn't miss out on any important detail in the murder case. In addition, each questions was required to be answered with great detail. Although, I was able to retain a lot of information while watching the Making a Murderer documentary, a lot of the times I would forget to take the notes or completely answer the questions given. Sometimes I would even partially answer the questions or leave them blank. This assignment basically taught me the importance of note taking because now with having to create a presentaiton about everything that was dicussed during the murder trial, there might be moments when I need to look back at my notes and that piece of information is not there. If I were to complete these assigments again I would be more attentive in answering the questions fully.
