Users can write short profile and topic bios to demonstrate their expertise, experience, and interest in certain topics. For example, "Software Engineer at Quora (2017-2020)." These bios show up next to users' names when they post an answer so that readers can understand the background and credentials of other users. The Bad Credentials queue identifies poorly written and inappropriate bios.
Bios are enqueued if they are reported by users. In the queue, bios can be marked as either "OK" or "Bad Bio." Bios marked as "Bad Bio" will not be allowed to be used. Users are notified that they should update their bios to be more helpful.
Bios will appear in the queue one at a time:
Mark a bio as OK if it meets both conditions below:
Indicates that the user has knowledge about a specific topic
We are lenient about what indicates that the user has knowledge.
Has 0-2 grammar or formatting errors
Bios can start with a lowercase word.
Bios can use sentence case or headline case (Like This).
Example: lived in san Francisco (1 error)
Example: lived in san francisco (2 errors)
Commas and other punctuation marks (used appropriately) in bios are OK
Example: Blogger, biker, mother
Example: Blogger/biker/mother
Example: lived in San Francisco.
A bio with more than 2 errors should be flagged as a Bad Bio.
Other cases you might come across:
1-2 emojis and emoticons in credentials are OK
Example: Mother :)
Example: lives in New York :D :O
A bio with more than 2 emojis should be flagged as a Bad Bio.
Foreign language bios with translations are OK
Example: MBBS from Taishan Medical University, 泰山医学院 (The last 5 characters translate to Taishan Medical University)

Note: For content that doesn’t indicate that the user has knowledge about a specific topic AND that does not clearly violate any Platform Policies, proceed to the Bad Bio label guidelines below to check the content for potential violations in this category. “Bad Bio” covers content that is not an indicator that the user has knowledge about a specific topic, and can include general profanity, or other “offensive” and/or irrelevant content that doesn’t hit the threshold for a Platform Policy Violation, provided it meets the rest of the Bad Bio criteria outlined further below.)
Mark a bio as Bad Bio if it meets any of the following conditions:
Is not an indicator that the user has knowledge about a specific topic
Includes bios that are jokes and general quotes/sayings
Includes bios about obviously fictional things
Includes any other content that doesn’t indicate a user’s knowledge about a specific topic, including general offensive and/or irrelevant content (e.g., general profanity, expletives, shock/troll content, etc.) that otherwise does not clearly violate the unified Platform Policies) Note: For profane content that is borderline (not clearly a platform policy violation), err towards using the bad bio label instead of labeling as a platform policy violation
