Yes, you usually need to make an application. These are often able to be made online. However, in some cases for selective programmes you will need to apply with references and transcripts from school. In these cases you must ensure that you let the Higher Education office, your Tutor and your Head of House know in plenty of time to ensure that we have time to assemble the relevant school documents to enable you to apply.
Generally no, there is no relation between admission to a Summer School programme and admission to the freshman class at that same university. However, attending the Summer School and performing well is likely to strengthen your application to any college or university.
