APPLYING - what you need to know and do
There are TWO steps to set up your application process correctly.
Following these will help you in the process because:
Your deadlines will be clearer to you
Your HE Counsellor and School Reference Writer (as well as any subject reference writers) will know what your deadlines are.
Step 1 - Declaring your application intentions.
Step 2 - Completing your Higher Education Application System (HEAS) form.
The HEAS form is a PAPER form with a signature page that you need to complete and print. No applications will be actioned if we do not have the printed, signed copy of your form.
Before completing your form you need to make sure you have, as part of the process of asking for a reference, had meaningful conversations about your higher education plans and what you'd like to study ....
There is a "cheat sheet" to help you prepare for these discussions called "teacher recommendation support" & you can find it here.
Completing the HEAS form is straightforward. At the beginning of Year 13 you will need to attend the presentations on applying through UCAS and/or applying through Common App if these are systems you will be using. The ppt files used at these sessions will be uploaded for each session. What is essential is that you make sure you adhere to the internal deadlines.
There are a number of resources available to help you in preparing your applications.
As well as online resources see the books we have in the HE library on writing college application essays, personal statements and more...
Also, when you are printing the HEAS form - think of the environment - work out which pages you need and print only those...
Visits are especially important in the year you are making your applications. Please do not miss them.
The HEAS, or Higher Education Application System, deadlines are ones you need to incorporate into your planning for Year 13. The deadlines for 2024-5 are in a document that looks like the image here and can be downloaded from the documents listed as attached at the end of the page.
