Being and Upstander/ Cooperation
We are getting ready to roll into spring and your kindergarten students are working so hard and doing amazing things at the ECC! This month in guidance, we are talking about our word of the month COOPERATION. One of the ways to show cooperation is by being an UPSTANDER when we see someone being unkind. An upstander stands up for someone and tries to be a friend to someone who is being "bullied." A bully is someone who does something mean to someone on purpose, to hurt them, and it happens over and over. If someone says or does something unkind one time, this does not make them a "bully." A bully might be someone you try to avoid and you feel scared around them because they do mean things to you. It is ok to talk to a grown-up if you feel you are being "bullied."
We reinforced this concept by having the students practice being "UPSTANDERS" when role-playing with our puppet friends (Kelso the frog and Bert, the parrot).
Please watch the following videos to deepen these concepts and spark conversation about bullying and being a good friend with your children. Thank you!!
