Happy New Year Bulldog Families!
This month in guidance classroom lessons, we are reviewing the Zones of Regulation from last month and talking about our PBIS focus word of the month, ACCEPTANCE. This is such an important topic to start discussing at a young age. We will be discussing and sharing how it might feel to be different than others and what makes each of us special or unique. We will be reading a book called "Elmer" and your student will bring home a picture of Elmer the Elephant to show how we are all unique and to generate discussions regarding what makes us special or unique. Please review the following activities with your child to reinforce this very important topic!
Watch the read-loud about what it means to show "acceptance."
Ask your child:
What is something that makes you special or different from everyone else?
Homework for Parents:
It all begins at home and the earlier the better! Children learn how to treat others by how their parents treat others. Here are some things you can do to promote acceptance. Your children learn best by watching you!!
-Promote openness by demonstrating empathy and compassion
Encourage your child's self-confidence-let them be who they are!
Honor traditions and learn about other's traditions (we do this at school!)
Give them experiences with diverse populations.
Talk about differences respectfully (hair color, skin color, likes, dislikes).
