We are cruising right through this year! It is hard to believe that just a few months ago, your children just started kindergarten. They have learned so much and have done an amazing job at following the rules and keeping everyone safe. With that said, February is also the time where the honeymoon is over and the curriculum gets a bit more challenging. If you happen to see behaviors you are not use to or a sense that your child gets frustrated more easily, don't panic! They are learning so much and the curriculum may not be as easy for some of the students as it was in the beginning of the year. This is okay. In classroom guidance lessons this month, we talk about having a GROWTH MINDSET or PERSEVERING (our PBIS word of the month). This is a concept we teach the children so they know that it is okay to make mistakes and this is what helps your brain grow! Having a growth mindset means you say to yourself, "I don't know this...YET, but I will keep trying and do my best, I can do it! "It may also mean we use different strategies to learn new things, or maybe we need to take a breath or take a break and come back to it when calm. In classroom guidance, we will be learning about growing your brain and reading the book "THE MAGICAL YET," by Angela DiTerlizzi. The students will be creating their very own "YET" and writing about one thing they may not be able to do ...YET!
Please review the following with your child to further strengthen this concept.
Watch the video, answer the question at the end, and have a discussion about growth mindset with your child.
Listen to this read aloud and talk about how the girl had a GROWTH MINDSET and kept PERSEVERING!
