UFLI Foundations Toolbox: The UFLI Foundations Toolbox contains all the lesson resources to accompany the lesson plans provided in the UFLI Foundations manual.

Word Work Mat  Can be used in Step 6

Word Work, or any time students need to use manipulative letters for encoding and decoding practice.  The Word Work Mat can be used by the teacher, the students, or both, to practice reading and spelling words.

Decodable Text Guide - Find the decodable texts that your school has been provided, that align to the corresponding Foundations lesson (e.g., SPIRE, SyllaSense, UFLI decodable passages etc.)


Heart (Irregular) Words Cards 

Lessons include introduction and review of irregular words using the “heart word” approach in Step 7: Irregular Words. The heart word cards can be printed to use for review of previously taught words or for display in the classroom as an easy reference for your students. The notes sections of the Step 7 lesson slides that display each heart word include an explanation for the coding used.

Passages to use with students to monitor their learning in heart words and decoding words and sentences. Each pages covers a group of five UFLI lessons.

Playful Practice


Short i Four in a Row: Students take turns trying to block the other player from getting four in a row. The first one to get four in a row wins. 

A combination of letters and irregular words. The teacher can say the sound and the student has to find the letter, or the teacher can say the letter name.
