Zoom

Zoom is a video tool for students to connect with teachers.

Teachers will place a link to Zoom meetings in Canvas.

To join the meeting, students need to be admitted by the teacher.

Please email the teacher if they are not admitting you into the meeting.

The helpdesk has no access to admit students in the waiting room of a meeting.

How to Change the Zoom Display Name on Chromebook

  1. Click on the search circle on the bottom left corner of the Chromebook screen and type “Zoom”. Then click on the blue Zoom icon.

  1. Zoom web app comes up and you can see the name is wrong.

  1. Type in the correct name.

  1. Click the drop down and select any of the meetings that you have attended from the history or enter any meeting ID that has been shared with you. (it does not matter which one or if the meeting has started)

  1. Since the meeting is not live you will get an error just click “Leave”. (this is normal)

  1. That’s it! The next time you need to click on a meeting link that is shared with you the correct name will populate.

* When a participant populates in the meeting you will now see the correct name and every time after that, unless the student changes it again.

Troubleshooting

Overall Zoom Chromebook Troubleshooting

  • Connect the charger to the Chromebook. Do not run on battery if possible.

  • Sign out if you are logged in, select the Shutdown button and power on the Chromebook before each Zoom meeting. This frees up the memory so maximum Chromebook resources are available for the Zoom meeting.

  • Close Chrome browser tabs not being used. Only have browser tabs open that are necessary for your class work while using Zoom.

  • Position yourself as close to the router as possible to increase network reliability.

  • Try a test Zoom meeting here: https://support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/articles/115002262083-Joining-a-Test-Meeting

  • Zoom needs 2.0 Mb per device of Upload Speed. Test your network speed here: https://www.att.com/support/speedtest

  • If possible, limit other streaming on the network while connected to Zoom.

  • Adjust your microphone volume to prevent feedback or increase volume.

  • Disable Bluetooth if not using.

  • Perform a Chromebook Reset.

I have pixellated picture and/or poor audio in Zoom sessions.

Make sure the Chromebook is running as efficiently as possible:

*See list above

I’m having problems with the audio on Zoom on my iPad.

Hold down the Home button and Top/Power Button until you see the Apple Logo. Release the buttons and the iPad will restart.

If that does not resolve the issue, click here for Speaker and/or Microphone issues on Zoom.

My camera won't work for a zoom meeting.

Test the camera and microphone by opening a Google Meet. If the camera and microphone work there, then you know the problem isn't your camera and microphone, the problem is Zoom.

In some cases, resetting the Chromebook helps. To force the camera to reset, hold down the refresh and power buttons for 10 seconds. This will perform a hard reset on the Chromebook, and should make the camera work again.
