Flipgrid is Microsoft’s free video discussion platform for educators, learners and families. In Flip, educators post discussion prompts and learners respond by sharing short videos. The simple and fun Flip Camera allows students to showcase their creativity by adding filters, stickers, whiteboard and more, all within their educator’s private class grid.
Your child can access their class Flip from any computer with a webcam (by navigating to flipgrid.com) or via our free app (on iOS or Android).
Watch this video for a quick overview that explains how your child will access their class Flip. Then keep reading for detailed instructions.
1. Click on the Flip link / Enter the Flip Code
Your child’s teacher will send you a Flip Code to their private Grid. Either (a) click on the link, or (b) enter the Flip Code on flipgrid.com or the free Flipgrid App (on iOS or Android).
2. Sign into the Grid.
Depending on how your child’s teacher set up their classroom Flip, you will join either using their School Email (the account your child uses to access Google Classroom) or a Student ID. If your child needs a Student ID, the teacher will provide this for you.
3. Record a Video
Review the educators discussion prompt. Your child will then tap the green plus to begin recording a video response. If you are on a phone, you will need to use Flipgrid’s free mobile app to record a video response.
After recording a video, review and edit, take a selfie (to serve as the cover photo), then submit!
For further instruction on how to record and submit a video, watch this quick and helpful tutorial with your child.
If you have any questions as you continue to help your child engage with Flipgrid, please explore our Help Center. And, if you’re curious about setting up your own Flipgrid to use with your family, learn more here!
We want to thank you for your relentless dedication to your child’s learning. Flip empowers student voice because of educators and families like YOU! Thank you for all you do to encourage your child every day.
