Honors, AP, and College Courses

What is an Honors Course?

  • An honors course is a class that is meant to be a challenge. Honors courses are weighted on a 5.0 scale, since the material is considered to be more difficult. For example, a B in an honors class would be considered to be an A in a regular course.

What is an AP Course?

  • An AP (Advanced Placement) course is a class that offers college-prep curriculum to students. Some colleges and universities give credits to students who can pass AP tests. AP course grades are weighted on a 5.0 scale, since the material is considered to be more difficult. Students who successfully complete summer and entrance assignments will be eligible for entrance to AP classes.

  • The AP test is separate from the class (and can be taken even if a student was not in an AP course). This year, the cost to take the test is around $95 per exam. Students who receive free or reduced lunch are eligible for a fee reduction on AP exams.

  • *Please note that honors and AP offerings are subject to change each school year

College Courses

  • College courses are more difficult and are taught at a faster pace. One semester of a college course has the potential to count for a year or more of a high school course and is graded on a 5.0 scale. To learn more about college courses, you can visit our concurrent enrollment page here.
