Letters of Recommendation (LORs)

Here are step-by-step instructions on how to ask for a letter of recommendation:

1. Ask your teacher or counselor for a letter of recommendation in person. When asking for one from a counselor, you must fill out the survey below. For all performing arts students, your counselor LOR will be written by Ms. Peña. For all design, visual, and media arts students, your counselor LOR will be written by Ms. Schultz. Your thorough responses to the questions on the survey will help us write a recommendation that reflects your academic and artistic talents, as well as your character and growth as a person.

You will need to check your list of schools and the programs you are applying for to see what sorts of letters they are looking for and how many. Most private schools require 2-3 letters of recommendation from teachers and also a rec from a counselor or an administrator.

2. When requesting LORs from teachers, you will need to add their email addresses on the college application portal (e.g., Common App). Please do this AFTER you speak with them in person.

Please email Ms. Peña (opena@oakarts.org) if you have any questions about this process.
