Middle School Course of Study



Media and Technology

This is our primary Digital Media course for 6-8th grade students. It will cover media literacy, filmmaking, photography, graphic design, and illustration.



High School Course of Study



Digital Media Concepts

This course builds a foundation in film production and editing, photography, computer skills, and live event production, as well as foundational knowledge in media business practices. Coursework will focus on particular careers in the multimedia and communications workforce. Instruction will focus on the interaction between media sources in live, recorded, and web-based productions. Genre studies and media studies are explored in depth. In addition, students will have the opportunity to attend film, design, and photography related field trips in the Bay Area to have a professional hands-on experience in multimedia, and to network with industry leaders. Students participate in select projects with upper level students, begin their digital portfolios, and have an opportunity to present their work in Digital Media exhibitions.



Digital Media Concepts II

This course builds on competencies in film production and editing (narrative and documentary), computer and project networking skills, and live event production, media business regulations and practices, as well as foundational knowledge in production design. Coursework will focus on particular careers in the multimedia and communications workforce. Genre studies and media studies are explored in depth. Coursework will deepen specific skills in computer design, film and video production, lighting, sound, and projection design, and print media design. Students will typically take Digital Media Concepts II for their 10th and 11th grade years, building their portfolios in preparation for a content specific Capstone course. 11th grade students will take part in work-based learning project for other arts departments and outside organizations.



Digital Media Concepts III

This capstone course in the Media Arts sequence applies learning from Introductory and Concentration Media Arts in a project based environment. Course work will focus on film and photography production, extended media, and live production in both the educational and work based setting. Instruction will focus on applying student knowledge of film and video production, lighting, sound and projection design, in industry environments. Students will create media arts products that demonstrate entry level workforce skills and comprehensive knowledge of industry practices. Students expand their knowledge of digital artists on a local and global scale, and make efforts to reach out and collaborate with them, creating meaningful career connections. Students will secure an internship in this pathway to reinforce their approach to career readiness in this area.



Live Video Production

In this course, you will get the opportunity to explore Live Video Production. You will learn about safety protocols on set, how to operate a video camera for a live performance, editing a multi-camera shoot, and much more!
