Imagine a flowchart that represents the entire water cycle in one system. We begin our visual narrative with a wavy line at the bottom of the symbol, representing the vastness of a lake or the immensity of an ocean. This is the beginning of our system.
From the wavy line, we see a gentle curve rising upward into a cloud-like shape. This transition marks the process of evaporation, where the heat of the sun turns liquid water into water vapor, which then rises into the sky. The curving of the brushstroke into a cloud-like shape also embodies condensation, where water vapor cools and turns back into tiny droplets that gather into clouds.
From the base of the cloud element drip multiple lines, each representing precipitation. These lines vary in length and thickness, just like the unpredictability of rain, snow, or sleet, and they descend toward the central area of the symbol, depicting the moment when water returns from the sky to the earth.
Beneath the clouds, we find the meandering curves of the river, which are depicted as winding through the symbol. These lines converge and diverge, representing the branching nature of the river system flowing from highlands to lowlands, ultimately forming a tranquil closed loop. This ring is the lake, a place where water gathers in a basin, providing a moment of tranquility before the water continues to flow.
Embedded in the lower half of our system diagram are wavy lines representing groundwater. These lines are subtle and often hidden from view, just like the groundwater flowing beneath the surface. They connect rivers and lakes, highlighting the invisible network of water that sustains life beneath our feet.
These small elements in the bottom right corner represent water molecules, offering a magnified view of microscopic entities. They represent human's scientific understanding of the world.
The most profound moment of this symbol is when these various lines, representing the various different paths that water takes, converge at the bottom and form a wavy line again. This final wavy line is the image at the beginning of the symbol, representing the ocean into which all rivers eventually flow. It symbolizes the water returning to its point of origin, completing the cycle and preparing to begin the process again.
As a whole, this symbol is a beautiful and complex system of regular patterns of the water cycle. It is a continuous cycle with no true beginning or end, just like the cycle it represents. When viewed as a whole, it tells the story of the constant flow of water through the Earth. This symbol is a testament to the interconnectedness of all things and the delicate balance that allows life to thrive.
