After you watch the video above, create a body attachment that distort one of your senses and alter your perception changing your relationship to your environment—your personal, physical, or social world. No electronic devices and no circuits needed. For this assignment, you will use prototyping materials such as cardboard, paper, wood, etc. In one or two paragraphs, write on the blog about your concept and document with photos and videos how this artifact works.
I made a body attachment that can alter one's vision. My inspiration came from the image from this weekly assignment. Just like the girl in the picture, I am also an introverted person. In daily life, if I need to make eye contact with someone face to face, I often feel uncomfortable. This attachment in the picture is very interesting. But since it uses a camera and screen to project one's eyes, I wondered whether I could make a non-electronic version of such a device through prototyping. I immediately recalled the physics knowledge I learned about light. Back in middle school, I studied something called “periscope,” which uses mirrors to change one's sight. So, my work uses the principle of light reflection to change the path of light entering the eyes. This way, a person can see the people or things behind them, which changes how they interact with the world and helps overcome awkward emotions in social situations. Eventually, I decided to make a special pair of glasses to bring my idea to life. The design draft and the prototyping process of my work is attached below.
