NYU students register for classes using Albert, NYU’s online student information system. The Albert system requires you to log on to NYU Home using your NetID that has been pre-assigned to you by NYU. Information about registration and registration policies are available on the Registrar’s Office web site (http://nyu.edu/registrar).
For new students, before you can register for classes on Albert you must enter/update your personal contact information. Once you complete these updates you can begin to put courses in your Albert Shopping Cart. These guides will help you understand the process:
You can access the entire NYU course schedule at www.albert.nyu.edu (click on Public Course Search).
Still having trouble? Check out the "Having Trouble Registering" website for further help!
Once you add classes to your shopping cart, you can Validate the cart to check and make sure that the courses you have do not have any conflicts, prerequisites, or other issues that would prevent your registration. See the Albert validate search guide for additional details.
Note that placing courses in your shopping cart does not reserve your seat so classes may close before you register and you should have back up options prepared when possible.
Albert does not allow you to register for courses with overlapping schedules. If you get an overlap message that you believe is in error, contact your advisors.
If you put yourself on the Albert wait list for a course, please keep the following in mind: the wait list is a computerized system and the next person on the wait list is automatically enrolled when a space opens up in the class. You should also carefully review options for setting up Swap/Waitlists as you can register for an alternate course and ask Albert to swap you into a course you are waitlisted for.
No confirmation is sent, so you are responsible for checking your status on Albert to see if you’ve been enrolled. Adjust your schedule so that your enrollment in the wait listed course does not take you above your maximum credit load. It is important that you check to see if you are off the wait list and in the course so that you attend all classes for which you are registered and so you can drop courses before you miss the window for tuition refunds.
There may be additional restrictions on courses by major or pre-requisite that are not always clearly indicated online. If you have questions regarding how to register for a specific course, contact your advisor.
Please see the Preparing to Register Guide for more information on preparing to register and dealing with registration hold issues proactively.
