Foreign Language Exemption Policy & Foreign Langauge Placement Exams

The Teaching & Learning Department’s Foreign Language Exemption Policy is effective for students entering the Teaching & Learning Department from Fall 2018 through Spring 2024. The policy states that if you meet any of the following criteria, you will have fulfilled our foreign language requirement. 

• If you matriculated between Fall 2018 and Spring 2024, please read the policy carefully and ask your academic advisor if you have any questions about how this might apply. 

Effective Fall 2024, the Teaching & Learning Department has adopted the Steinhardt Foreign Language policy for all students admitted for Fall 2024 and beyond. Please review this policy and let your advisor know if you have any questions. 

If you took the CAS Exemption exam and passed, please fill out this form to upload the confirmation email you received from Michael Fisher in CAS that you passed.
