Undergraduate students can only pass/fail Liberal Arts & Unrestricted Electives or CORE-UA courses not being used to fulfill a content area*. Students are not permitted to pass/fail more than one course per semester and cannot pass/fail more than 16-20 credits total (depending on the program of study).
Students must see their academic advisor to discuss this option and to fill out the necessary form. Effective fall 2023, the form is now offered through Docusign to streamline the process. Please review the instructions listed on the NYU Steinhardt Forms website. Forms must be signed by a Teaching & Learning advisor and returned to the Steinhardt Registrar deadline outlined on NYU's Academic Calendar for that term. NOTE: The pass/fail deadlines differ between the NYU New York Campus and the various NYU study away sites. Please refer to your study away site's academic calendar for the pass/fail deadline.
*See your advisor for specific limitations to CORE-UA classes by program. Students may petition for an exception but only under extreme circumstances will this be granted.
