Alvin Cheng-Hsien Chen is Associate Professor at the Department of English, National Taiwan Normal University, Taiwan. He received his Ph.D. in Linguistics in 2012, from National Taiwan University. His research interests revolve around quantitative corpus-linguistic analyses on the inter-relationship between language, interaction and cognition. In particular, his research is mainly concerned with the use of corpora for quantitative studies of issues in theoretical linguistics as well as language learning. His recent interests include: (1) an interdisciplinary study on language and ideology, (2) tonal preplanning in spontaneous speech production, (3) space particles and conceptual metaphors, and (4) phraseology.
He has been offering graduate-level courses on applied linguistics on a regular basis, including Introduction to Programming Languages for Linguistic Analysis (ENC2055), Corpus Linguistics (ENC2036), Computational Linguistics (ENC2045), and Topics on Quantitative Corpus Linguistics (ENC2056).
