Miao-Hsia Chang is Professor of English and Linguistics at the Department of English, National Taiwan Normal University. She specializes in corpus-based approach to Discourse Analysis and Pragmatics. She has published works in journals and books about the discourse functions and grammaticalization of discourse/pragmatic markers, adverbial expressions, formulaic expressions, and recurrent lexical bundles in Taiwanese Southern Min and Mandarin Chinese, focusing in particular on the roles they play in textuality, sequentiality, and the speaker’s management of information. She is also interested in the application of linguistic research in discourse analysis and pragmatics to English and Chinese language teaching. Her current research includes (i) register comparison of recurrent lexical bundles in Taiwanese Southern Min; (ii) directive speech acts in Taiwanese Southern Min, and (iii) linguistic analysis and pedagogy of metadiscourse markers in Mandarin Chinese academic discourse.
